Sling TV on a roll

January 18, 2016

By Chris Forrester

A few months ago industry observers were worried that Dish Network was struggling to sell its Sling TV ‘pay-TV lite’ offering. The most recent numbers from Dish, issued last June, put the subs total at just 240,000.

But a fresh look at the numbers by equity analysts at bankers Goldman Sachs are suggesting that the end-Q3 number is in much better shape at some 346,000. Craig Moffett of Moffett-Nathanson is a tad more optimistic and places the Q3 numbers at some 394,000.

So far, so good. But Goldman Sachs adds more icing on the Sling TV cake by forecasting that by the end of this year Sling TV should have some 2 million subs under its belt.

This will go some way to compensate for more traditional subscriber losses. Goldman Sachs suggests that this year will see Dish Network lose 724,000 ‘full price’ subs.
