Murray Final draws record UK audience for Eurosport

February 2, 2016

Eurosport’s exclusive coverage of the Australian Open Men’s Final made Eurosport 1 the most watched channel in the UK at the moment Novak Djokovic won the third set tie break to seal victory over Britain’s Andy Murray on January 31st. The match resulted in record tennis ratings for Eurosport and delivered its best weekend ever.

The three hour match shown exclusively live on Eurosport 1 and available on Eurosport Player, averaged 868,000 TV viewers with a peak audience of over 1 million viewers during the second set.

Susanna Dinnage, General Manager, Discovery Networks, UK & Ireland said, “The record breaking audience for the Australian Open is a fantastic reflection of a revitalised Eurosport. To break a record that has stood for more than 20 years so soon after Eurosport joined the Discovery family is a signal of our intent to secure the greatest moments in sport exclusively and tell the greatest local stories with more local production.”

The previous highest audience for a Eurosport programme in the UK was over 20 years ago, when 793,000 people watched a FIFA World Cup match between Romania and Switzerland in USA 1994.
