Analogue TV in Singapore will be switched off by the end of 2017 says the country’s Ministry of Communications & Information.
MediaCorp, the group of commercial broadcasters in Singapore, started transmitting its seven free-to-air channel to digital in December 2013 but has maintained analogue transmissions. These analogue broadcasts will end next year.
Singapore’s Communications Minister, Yaacob Ibrahim, has said that the freed-up spectrum will be more than sufficient for the expansion of mobile broadband and help drive Singapore’s ‘Smart Nation’ initiative.
