Spain: New Vodafone TV service

February 18, 2016

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Vodafone Spain is breaking into the ADSL, XDSL and VDSL market with the launch of a new TV service next month in direct competition with Telefónica.

The new TV service will be similar to that available to all its subscribers via fibre optic at the same cost. The company will distribute a new device compatible with TiVo, but with a different interface, to receive the TV service.

This move sees Vodafone enter into a market so far controlled by Telefónica. Vodafone is also planning to extend its Vodafone TV Online, currently available on portable devices, to PCs and Smart TVs as an integrated feature.

Vodafone ended 2015 with over one million subscribers, adding 100,000 in the last quarter.
