Irdeto secures GoMedia on Virgin trains

June 7, 2016

Irdeto, an expert in digital platform security, has announced its selection by GoMedia, an on-board infotainment provider, for secure delivery of OTT entertainment content for customers on Virgin Trains services.

Following its first deployment with Eurostar in March 2016, GoMedia has once again turned to Irdeto’s media protection solution to support the secure delivery of a range of entertainment including films, comedy and games. Irdeto Rights will be used to secure access over PCs and Macs as well as for the mobile apps on Android and iOS. GoMedia’s work with Virgin Trains leverages an improved, more stable WiFi service on trains to allow a good user experience without requiring passengers to use their mobile data plans to access quality video entertainment onboard trains. Virgin Trains’ passengers (more than 20 million per year) will be able to stream the content through iOS and Android apps as well as via their web browsers.

“As consumers become increasingly connected, offering customers and commuters the latest entertainment content is a great enhancement to the customer experience, but it must be delivered securely,” said Roger Matthews, Managing Director, GoMedia. “The success of the deployment with Eurostar, in partnership with Irdeto, was a market-first for this service and we are pleased to be able to announce a new implementation to deliver infotainment content for one of the UK’s leading transport operators; Virgin Trains.”
