Portugal’s broadband and pay-TV provider NOS has launched a next generation TV service and the country’s first personal TV service.

The UMA interface includes the functionalities most sought after by customers, such as advanced voice control and the NOS TV application, as well as a simpler and more intuitive navigation and an increasingly more customised contents offer.

The voice remote control, a first in Portugal, enables users to select, a channel/programme without having to remember the channel number or the thousands of programmes available.

In addition, users can specify their favourite actors, directors and series, in order to follow up on all related TV and on-demand contents. It is also possible to find out what the most viewed contents are by UMA users.

The UMA interface is integrated into a package of convergent services and can be used on all devices (smartphone, tablet and PC) with the NOS TV application, offering access to over 90 TV channels and featuring Restart TV and Automatic Recording.

UMA comes with pioneering functionalities and services, such as Ultra HD 4K and Internet speeds of up to 200 MB, as well as unlimited fixed voice and plenty of mobile data.

The NOS Ultra HD 4K set-top box, as previously reported by Advanced Television, is supplied by ARRIS (ZD4500) and features HEVC and allowing reception of the two 4K channels on the NOS channel list and the RTP4K channel, on which eight Euro 2016 games will air live.

The STB does not have any internal storage unit, since all the recordings, definitions and information are held on the Cloud.

The hybrid IP Video service solution is powered by the Espial G4 STB client; a Broadcom BCM7251S chipset; Nagra anyCAST Connect content protection; and, Nuance Dragon TV Voice Recognition, along with the NOS back-office.
