Pakistan starts DTH licence process

June 23, 2016

Pakistan’s media regulator (PEMRA) is inviting broadcasters to apply for new DTH licences.

Would-be broadcasters must pay a $7,400 with their application. A shortlist of companies will be contacted in September, and would then be pre-qualified to enter an auction for a DTH licence to operate. The successful bidders will be announced “by October” according to PEMRA.

Companies which have previously applied need not re-apply as they have already been shortlisted.

The overall intention is to curb the piracy of DTH signals, in particular those coming from India.
