Satellite operator SES has confirmed that SES Satellite Leasing (SESSL), its entrepreneurial investment arm has plans to expand SES’s satellite operations by building a new teleport that will have several earth stations on the Isle of Man.
The teleport, which is expected to enter into service in 2017, will be a state-of-the-art facility providing satellite telemetry, tracking and commanding (TT&C) facilities and capacity management, together with a wide range of teleport services such as uplink, downlink, and contribution services for broadcasters and data centres.
“SES’s investment in a high-tech teleport on the Isle of Man will further strengthen our infrastructure offering, benefiting all of our customers” said Martin Halliwell, Chief Technology Officer at SES.
“The Isle of Man has built a reputation as a test bed for new and innovative technology,” noted Laurence Skelly, Minister for the Department of Economic Development, Isle of Man Government. “Our strong infrastructure and telecoms systems, alongside our support for new and expanding businesses, have seen the Island draw interest from a range of technology sectors and companies. Attracting future investment to the Island is at the core of the work of the Department and we will continue to support our colleagues within the industry as these exciting developments unfold.”
SES currently has over 30 teleports, including those of its subsidiaries O3b Networks and MX1 and other partner teleports.
