Greek TV auction rift grows

October 19, 2016

Greece’s important Council of State has permitted appeals against the government’s decision to auction a batch of TV channel licences to the highest bidders.

The ruling, made by 16 judges of the Council (with nine voting against the decision) has created a major rift between the Greek judiciary and the government.

The ruling, made on October 18th, now places in question the complete auction process for six TV channels, and the decision by State Minister Nikos Pappas to reduce the number of channels on offer to four.
