Kuwait: Zain to launch OTT TV

Kuwait-based cellular telco Zain is to launch a MENA-targeted internet TV service in conjunction with iflix across much of the MENA region. The new business, iflix Arabia, will be based in Dubai and serve Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

Iflix Arabia will launch in Q2/2017, and offer “thousands of TV shows, movies and more with Arabic and English subtitles, including many first run exclusives and award-winning programmes”.

Zain has a claimed 47 million subscribers. John-Paul McKerlie, CEO of iflix Arabia, said: “The teaming of Zain and iflix has empowered both businesses with the capacity to offer customers the most incredible content services. A great mix of local and international catalogues will reach audiences using Zain’s leading networks, guaranteeing the best speeds for streaming and user experience, bringing even more content to customers and enhancing their viewing experience.”

Iflix is already up and running in some key Asian markets, having launched in 2015 and a claimed 4 million signed-up subscribers since launch.
