Emirates-based telco ‘du’ is to build a new satellite teleport for the region.

du says the new facility will cover some 75,000 sq metres of area and built away from the existing built-up area of Dubai. Sited in the Al Qudra region of Dubai, it is designed to accommodate up to 50 large antennas and has further room for expansion. du adds that the number of TV channels being uplinked by its current teleport has grown by 600 per cent since it started operations in 2004.

“In order for du to meet the growing requirements of customers in the region and internationally, we have come up with our new Teleport facility. Today, ours is the top ranked teleport in the MENA region and is already one of the top ten independent operators in the world. As broadcast requirements continue to proliferate, we will endeavour to innovate and offer our customers new broadcast solutions that will deliver on superior quality of service,” said Ahmed Al Muhaideb, VP/Broadcasting and IPTV Services.

The telco says the new facility will handle a complete suite transmission and broadcasting operations, including play-out.
