August 30, 2017

MTG has signed former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher as its new football expert. Starting September 13th, Carragher will provide expert live analysis of the UEFA Champions League exclusively for MTG’s channels and streaming services.

Jamie Carragher devoted his entire playing career to Liverpool FC. His magnificent run with the Reds spans 17 years, from 1997 to 2013, during which time he made 737 appearances in all competitions for the club. Carragher represented England in the 2004 UEFA European Championship, 2006 FIFA World Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Today, Carragher works as a football expert on Sky Sports in the UK, giving his views on the Premier League. Carragher’s first appearance on MTG’s UEFA Champions League coverage will be on 13 September, when Liverpool take on top Spanish club Sevilla FC at Anfield in Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher, UEFA Champions League expert for MTG: “Scandinavia has always been very special to me and to Liverpool FC. The fanbase is incredible and I’m excited about the opportunity to work as an expert for MTG. MTG’s longstanding experience and quality in covering the highest level of international football, combined with my own enthusiasm and knowledge, makes this a perfect partnership.”

MTG broadcasts the UEFA Champions League on its video-streaming service Viaplay and pay-TV platform Viasat in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, with selected games also available on its free-TV channels.

Carragher, who holds Liverpool’s record for most appearances in European competition and was part of the 2005 UEFA Champions League-winning squad, will make pitch-side appearances throughout the 2017/2018 season.

Peter Nørrelund, MTG EVP and CEO of MTG Sport: “We already have the best local experts in our football coverage in each of the Scandinavian countries, but I’m excited that we have signed an international star like Carragher who knows European football inside out. On Sky Sports, Carragher has shown that he is razor-sharp in his analysis and I’m looking forward to his contributions to our coverage of the UEFA Champions League, where he will be attending one game every match day”.

MTG is the only broadcasting company in the world to have continuously held the media rights to the UEFA Champions League, the world’s most prestigious football tournament, since the competition’s inception in 1992. MTG has recently extended the Scandinavian rights to the UEFA Champions League until 2021.

MTG broadcasts more than 50,000 hours of high quality live sport every year on its TV channels and streaming services, including NHL and KHL ice hockey, UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, Formula One, NFL American football, boxing, UFC and golf.
