AMC CEO: “Walking Dead could run for 50 years”

November 3, 2017

The team behind The Walking Dead has said that the hugely-successful TV franchise could run for decades. AMC’s zombie apocalypse drama is currently in its eighth season and inevitably experiencing declining ratings, but the network is confident there’s still plenty of life in the property.

Speaking to investors during an earnings call, AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan expressed his desire in keeping the franchise going for the foreseeable future and beyond.

“The use of the word ‘franchise’, we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word,” Sapan said. “We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.”

The show has already produced one spin-off show, Fear The Walking Dead, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
