Japanese public broadcaster NHK says it will cover the Winter Paralympics for the first time with live transmissions.

The live broadcasts from PyeongChang will begin on March 9th (until 18th) and include the opening ceremony and will be carried on NHK’s Educational TV Channel. Highlights will also be shown at 10pm in a dedicated programme. NHK’s General TV channel will also have special coverage.

Certain programming will also be aired live on NHK’s BS1 satellite channel. Other transmissions for the visually impaired will be carried on an audio sub-channel with dedicated commentary for the blind.

NHK says that some of the Paralympic competitions will be captured in 8K. NHK says it will film mainly Japanese competitors at the Games with 8K cameras, and broadcast highlights of the Paralympics for test broadcast for 8K (Super Hi-Vision).
