Telefónica launches TV VR experience

Spain’s dominant telco is launching a virtual reality application to “allow the total immersion of user in the TV content”, cording to a statement from the company released at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The project called TV Virtual Experience “is a step forward the future TV” as it will integrate the virtual reality into Movistar Plus’ content creating 3D worlds in the pay TV platform.

Telefónica has developed the multi platform app to implement it in two different scenarios: a private living room with a big 2D screen of 192” and capacity for up to 5 subscribers and a virtual public living room to share 3D content, above all sports and cinema, with other 15 subscribers. The experience is interactive as the subscribers may participate with avatars and 3D audio.

The app is compatible with the main virtual reality platforms such as Oculus, Microsoft and Steam VT and the 3D glasses may be  Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, Lenovo Mirage or HTC VIVE. It is also necessary a PC equipped with an Intel i5 generation processor

With the app, subscribers may watch live TV channels, VoD and 360 content. The recordings have been made with Samsung 360 Round cameras. Subscribers can twit messages and interact with the content. There are also 3D advertising content with products placement.
