Freesat, the UK’s subscription-free satellite TV platform, has added Turkish news service TRT World to its collection of channels. Available in SD and HD on channel number 215 from today, TRT World will be the latest addition to Freesat’s News & Sport section.
Since 2015, TRT World has broadcast in the English language to communicate a Turkish perspective on current affairs to a global audience. As the international face of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation – a European Broadcasting Union founding member – the channel hopes to encourage debate on global issues and offer a different viewpoint on current affairs. TRT World seeks to focus on the humanitarian angle of each story, prioritising how events influence ordinary people.
In addition to on-the-ground reporting, TRT World also has a wide variety of in-studio programming. Showcase keeps viewers up to date with the latest in the arts and culture scene. Money Talks aims to help the 99 per cent navigate their financial world through in-depth reports and analysis from the TRT team. Beyond the Game sees TRT World speak to the biggest names behind popular sporting events.
Alistair Thom, managing director at Freesat, said: “We’re very pleased to be the first free-to-air platform to offer TRT World to UK viewers. In coming to Freesat, TRT World joins the likes of CNN and Al-Jazeera in providing our viewers with an international perspective on news and current affairs from both home and abroad. We’re sure the channel will be popular with Freesat viewers
Murat Akguc, Managing Director at TRT World said: “We are pleased to announce the signing of this agreement with Freesat. TRT World is strengthening its worldwide position as a global news organisation and this deal will enable us to reach out to UK homes to provide an alternative viewpoint on world events, challenging perceived narratives and providing a much-needed perspective on news. We will continue to bring the news directly to our audience, wherever they are and in whichever way they prefer to receive it”
