Japan’s public broadcaster NHK is set to showcase some of its 8K programming at the ‘South by South West’ (SXSW) show in Austin, Texas (March 13th – 15th).

NHK is equipping a dedicated theatre along with a 200” cinema screen, and onto which it will project some of its latest music content. Audio is not being ignored and NHK will have a 24-unit immersive sound system to make the most of the concert footage.

Performances from Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock Live in New York, Toshiko Akiyoshi NY Jazz Legend 70th Anniversary Show, Barcelona’s Sound of Sagrada Familia conducted by Kazushi Ono, Catalonia National Orchestra and Japanese rock sensation, Sakanaction, will all be featured.

“We are thrilled to be able to share our passion of technology and innovation with the SXSW attendees,” said Yasushi Seito, Senior Associate Director of Programming Center at NHK. “SXSW is the premiere conference for the tech savvy and we’re excited to be making history with them as a partner.”

NHK will start transmissions on the world’s first ever 8K compatible satellite broadcast channel. The channel will start on December 1st 2018.
