Grand National 2018 mobile betting to break records

April 6, 2018

With an estimated two-thirds of Britain’s adult population betting on this year’s race, Ooyala is predicting a record year for bets placed via mobile phone.

Jim O’Neill, Principal Analyst at Ooyala, commented: “The Grand National remains the most valuable jump race in Europe with a prize fund of £1 million but even this historic event hasn’t escaped the rise of mobile viewing which has become an industry game changer. With a boom in mobile betting apps, users can now bet on the National using their mobile phone minutes before the start of the race. With broadcasters and bookies making exclusive content on the horses and riders that’s available via ITV and bookies’ mobile apps, this is all likely to culminate into a record-breaking number of bets being made via mobile phones”

“Our latest video index report revealed that mobile video plays reached an all-time high globally for the fourth quarter of 2017 – garnering a 60.3 per cent share of all video starts – which could mean a change in how users interact with live sports content and drive users to bet on the National via their mobile device app. With the ability to bet on a horse with the most up-to-date information available via the mobile app, more users than ever before are likely to bet via the app in the final minutes leading up to this year’s race,” concluded O’Neill.
