Ergen backs satellite’s role in 5G expansion
May 10, 2018
Speaking during a post-results call with industry analysts, Charlie Ergen (founder/chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar) is backing how satellite could help the deployment of 5G services. While initially focused on the US, he also said that combining Dish with EchoStar, “as they used to be” was also possible.
Dish TV has just under 11 million subscribers, and its spin-off Sling TV has another 2.3 million (up 36 per cent y-o-y). Revenues at Dish were down $222 million to $3.5 billion, and blamed on the decline in core subscribers. ARPU also fell by $2.05 per month.
