Canal+ to offer Apple TV 4K STB

The Canal + Group is now offering Apple TV 4K as a set-top box alternative to its subscribers in France. Customers can choose Apple TV 4K as a set-top box and access their programmes, including an ever-expanding choice of 4K and HDR content, the App Store, Apple Music, Siri, and more. The broadcaster says that subscribers and new customers will benefit from the best myCanal experience on Apple TV 4K.
“We are proud to offer Apple TV 4K and our unique selection of programmes to our millions of subscribers in France,” declared Frank Cadoret, DGA of the Group of France. “The Canal offers reach nearly one in five French households and with myCanal we have all the assets to attract a large number of users. Apple TV represents the perfect setting for our exclusive premium content, especially cinema, sports and our original creations.”
Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music & International Content at Apple, adds: “We believe that Canal subscribers will love using the Apple TV 4K as a set-top box and will enjoy a rich and easy-to-use experience. to watch their favourite channel programming, as well as access to Apple services, including the App Store and Apple Music.”
The Apple TV 4K will be available from May 17th for all subscriber signed up an OTT offer at the usual price of a Canal decoder (€6 per month).
Canal subscribers and new customers will benefit from the best experience of myCanal, associated with Apple TV 4K. With support for 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR), Apple TV 4K is based on the A10X Fusion chip – the same chip as the iPad Pro – said to deliver incredibly crisp, sharp, colourful images more real than life, and many more details in dark and bright scenes.
Canal+ says it is leveraging Apple TV’s capabilities to bring the myCanal experience to the next level:
- Even more 4K and HDR content (live and on demand);
- Integrating Siri for quick and easy search in all Canal content;
- An enriched sports experience with Multi-Live features (several simultaneous streams on a single screen) and Expert Mode (live statistics).
The myCanal application, which has more than 13 million mobile downloads and 1 million daily users, is the number one media application in France on all platforms.
myCanal will be automatically installed on Apple TV 4K for Canal customers and will provide access to all the contents of their offer, live and on demand, including more than 10,000 movies, series, sports and documentary highlights, and all the associated features (start-over, playlists, etc.)
myCanal also offers a mobile experience that embodies the promise of the Canal+ Group to offer its subscribers an interactive television anytime and anywhere, in France and now throughout the European Union.
Canal + Group will distribute the Apple TV 4K directly to its customers and will apply the same rental conditions as for its own set-top boxes.
