India’s broadband audience grew 2.01 per cent in May, and well ahead of April’s 1.73 per cent. According to India’s TRAI regulator, this equates to 10.2 million extra connections (compared to 7.19 million in April).

TRAI says that a major portion of new users signed up for wireless broadband, and its cell-phones and laptop ‘dongles’ segment grew 3.05 percent during the month.

Major wireless gainers were Reliance Jio which now has some 205.5 million connections, Bharti Airtel with 95.9 million, Vodafone with 61.4 million and Idea Cellular with 40 million subsscribers.

Looking at the top wireless operators, Jio saw the greatest growth adding 9.4 million subscribers in May.

Wired service providers were more or less flat during May.  For example, Hathway saw no material growth in May.
