Spain: Movistar nears 4m pay-TV subs

Movistar is close to  reaching 4 million pay-TV subscribers, with 3.93 million as of June 30th.  The company leads the pay-TV market in Spain and isa dding subscribers faster than its rivals Vodafone and Orange.

In six months, Movistar has captured 87,000 new subscribers, 7,000 more than the previous quarter. By contrast Vodafone lost 42,000 pay TV subscribers in the first half of the year.

Orange Spain had 639,000 pay-TV subscribers as of June 30th, up 13,000 in comparison with December 2017 and down 2,000 versus March.

The fight for new subscribers will intensify over the coming weeks with Movistar and Orange trying to capture Vodafone TV subscribers who can no longer watch La Liga or Champions League football on the service.
