Alexei Beloborodov, the deputy director of Russian space and rocket engine company RSC Energia, has been arrested along with two of his subordinates, and accused of alleged fraud.

“Energia’s deputy director Alexei Beloborodov and two of his subordinates were arrested and charged with attempted fraud,” the Investigative Committee of Russia said in a statement, citing police work carried out by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

An investigation has reportedly been ongoing since July, according to Russian media and reported by the Associated Press and TASS, with some reports describing the consequences as being “high treason”.

The arrests took place at the Central Research Institute, and reports say that up to a dozen others are under investigation.

Energia is a major player in Russia’s space industry, and designs and manufactures the Soyuz and Progress spacecrafts and also produces ballistic missiles.
