Spain’s OTT Opensport no-show

August 28, 2018

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Independent OTT platform Opensport, which claimed to have bought La Liga streaming rights, is facing fierce criticism for failing to broadcast El Partidazo (the top billed football match per week) last weekend.

Soon after the company had announced the acquisition of the rights and the transmission of the match, it ceased the broadcast generating a lot of complaints from the subscribers.

The acquisition of the rights has also been brought into question, as Telefónica denied such an agreement, claiming that it was only in negotiations with Opensport and beIN Connect, owned by Mediapro.

Opensport has not issued any comments and any potential streaming deal is now up in the air.
