September 12, 2018

Ocean Blue Software (OBS) and SERAPHIC have announced an HbbTV 2.0.1 solution for Android powered TVs and STBs.Combining SERAPHIC’s market leading digital TV browser supporting HbbTV and Freeview Play standards with the OBS’s DVB stack for Android, the solution enables OEMs to bring to market HbbTV compliant Android TVs and STBs. In turn, this allows consumers to benefit from the best of established HbbTV interactive, catch-up and VOD services as well as the wealth of Apps and OTT video services that Android has to offer. The solution is compatible with both the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and AndroidTV (GTVS) powered devices. The HbbTV for Android solution is supported by Broadcom on the Broadcom AndroidTV reference platform.

Paul Martin, CEO of Ocean Blue Software, said, “We see Android becoming more important in both the retail and operator digital TV markets. Whilst more of the ‘must-have’ content and catch-up services consumed today are delivered via IP, many broadcasters have widely used HbbTV services which consumers must continue to have access to. Combining SERAPHIC’s Digital TV Browser with OBS’ DVB stack for Android enables OEMs to develop products that support the best of both worlds, and demonstrates how OBS and SERAPHIC are best placed to help manufacturer’s deliver this type of product to market.”

Ye Wang, CEO of SERAPHIC, also commented, “We’re very much delighted to cooperate with Ocean Blue Software on AndroidTV solution, to meet the market’s growing needs for Android products. As a hybrid TV technology forerunner, SERAPHIC has been devoted itself into both Linux and Android world, along with years of market-proven success. We are looking forward to meeting industry professionals at IBC2018.
