ITV’s multiplex business, SDN, has named Ross Appleton as Managing Director. He takes up his post with immediate effect and will work closely broadcasters who want to access the UK’s 19 million DTT homes.

SDN is a DTT multiplex operator which broadcasts channels such as QVC, Drama, Channel5+1, Quest, Hochanda, Blaze, ITVBe and CBS Reality on Freeview, Youview and other DTT devices. SDN negotiates carriage deals with broadcasters and then enables them to broadcast on DTT, via a network of around 80 transmission towers around the UK, which then transmits the TV signal through to the aerials on homes.

Ross has been at ITV since 2012, and has held a number of roles across strategy, online, and technology. Immediately before joining ITV Ross was part of the strategy arm of Accenture, working on a variety a variety of media and telco companies. Before joining Accenture Ross spent four years at BT becoming Strategy Manager in 2009.

Ross said: “SDN is a crucial part of the DTT eco-system with a multitude of industry-wide stakeholders. I look forward to working closely with broadcaster partners, helping them to reach audiences on the most widely used TV platform in the UK.”

Ross replaces Tim Cadbury who is now Financial Director of ITV Commercial.
