Mastermind heads to Kazakhstan

October 5, 2018

Ahead of Mipcom, BBC Studios has announced the sale of the Mastermind format to Khabar Agency JSC who will produce 21 episodes to air on the Khabar channel later this year. Kazakhstanis, as in the UK version, will compete to win the honour of being crowned Kazakhstan’s Mastermind as they take to the black chair to be tested on their specialist subject and general knowledge.

One of Britain’s most enduring and best loved quiz shows (debuted on BBC in 1972), Mastermind has previously sold to nine territories including Australia, Ireland and Russia.

Sumi Connock, Creative Director of Formats, BBC Studios, commented: “We’re thrilled that a huge heritage brand like Mastermind, which has been on air in the UK for over 40 years is still being welcomed into new territories. We also have a great line up of brand new factual entertainment formats this MIPCOM and of course, an exciting addition to the Dancing with the Stars family with the ray of sunshine that is Dancing with the Stars: Juniors.”
