EBU creates Eurovision Services

October 9, 2018

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will transfer its business services to a new subsidiary, Eurovision Services SA, on January 1st 2019. The new subsidiary will be fully owned by the EBU and based in Geneva, Switzerland.

“I very much welcome this strategic development for the EBU, for the new subsidiary, and especially for our Members and clients. It is both a proactive and logical move by the EBU to respond to a rapidly changing media industry, with digital transformation at its core,” said Noel Curran, EBU Director General

“Business services is a core field of activity for the EBU alongside Member services, and it is vital that it maintains and grows its position as the media industry’s premier producer and distributor of high-quality live news, sport and entertainment content, to better anticipate and meet the needs of all its stakeholders. The rationale for giving greater independence to our business arm is to enable it to grow in stature and value and to continue to pioneer innovative media solutions across the value chain- from content production to broadcast services and distribution,” added Curran.

With more than 60 years at the forefront of technological advancements, the new subsidiary will build on the established reputation of the EBU, and continue to deliver thousands of hours of high-quality live content to major media organisations, sports federations and their audiences, whether through traditional channels or increasingly through online and on demand services.

Eurovision Services will be led by Chief Executive Officer, Marco Tinnirello, reporting to a Board of Directors.

“The new structure copper-fastens our business arm’s position as the first choice media services provider but with a more agile framework to better serve our clients and EBU Members,” said Tinnirello. “Our new strategy will see us expand our portfolio of products and services in order to help our clients and EBU Members connect audiences with their content, and bring together our trusted ability to deliver new innovations.”
