The latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) shows extremely modest growth from the nation’s 5 DTH operators.  TRAI says the operators added just 80,000 net new (active) subs in the quarter-year to September 30th.

At that point the five players had about 69.45 million subscribers (69.37m as at July 31st).

Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV had reported the addition of 200,000 and 133,000 net subscribers respectively in the period. Dish TV is a listed company while Airtel Digital TV’s numbers are reported by its listed parent company Bharti Airtel.

During the period, Dish TV India’s market share fell by one percentage point to 41 per cent from 42 per cent in the previous quarter. Airtel Digital TV’s market share rose by one percentage point to 22 per cent from 21 per cent. Tata Sky, Sun Direct, and Reliance Digital TV’s market share remained unchanged at 25 per cent, 11 per cent, and 1 per cent respectively.
