Simplestream enhances VOD in a Box platform

January 10, 2019

Simplestream, the specialist in live, live-2-VoD and on-demand OTT services, has strengthened its VOD in a Box technology with download for offline viewing and Chromecast integration across its mobile services.

In its latest move to deliver this for its customers, Simplestream now provides Chromecast receiver apps, the flexibility to adjust download bitrates and custom retention periods; with complete video and audio download support on mobile- and tablet-supported OTT services.

“TV is more immersive, interactive and personalised than ever before, so it’s imperative to make sure our customers are equipped with the best tools and features to provide enhanced viewing experiences for their subscribers,” said Lewis Arthur, Chief Product Officer, Simplestream. “The growth of mobile video is an exciting opportunity for our industry, driving increased investment and fueling consumption. Offline viewing capability and Chromecast integration are valuable differentiators to any OTT service, and help content owners and service providers remain competitive.”

These features are already in use by History Hit TV, NextUp Comedy and Marquee – all services that were designed, built and launched by Simplestream in the last year – and were rolled out at no additional cost to the customers.

“Untethered access enables our customers to give their viewers more control over their entertainment experience by connecting seamlessly with their favourite content, making these services more relevant and accessible,” added Arthur. “These are game-changing capabilities that have been months in the making, so I’m thrilled that they are now live and ready to be put to great use by our customers – and their viewers.”
