Friend MTS will showcase latest multi-layer watermarking for protection against streaming piracy at NAB 2019

January 23, 2019

Friend MTS, the Emmy Award winning content and revenue protection specialist, will be showcasing its latest multi-layer watermarking for strengthened national and international protection against streaming piracy at NAB 2019 (booth SU8921).

Based on its Distribution iD and ASiD managed services, the multi-layer watermarking and content monitoring strengthens security for content owners in domestic markets. It provides content identification at a programmer and pay TV platform level, as well as at a subscriber level.

Using distribution and subscriber level watermarking allows rapid tracing of the path used for illegal redistribution, and action can be taken against the subscriber responsible for the content theft in just a few minutes.

Multi-layer watermarking can also be deployed highly effectively across overseas markets. This allows content owners and programmers to track the path of any illegal restreaming that originates from their international distribution partners. This multi-level approach delivers powerful intelligence for optimising security to address regional piracy hotspots.

Neil Sharpe, Director Product Marketing, said: “For content owners and programmers, the highest level of security against streaming piracy demands protection across all the pay TV platforms that deliver their content, as well as across all the consumer devices deployed, including set-top boxes and OTT players.”

“By providing multiple layers of watermarking for end-to-end security across the delivery chain, Friend MTS can offer the most complete content protection systems, without impacting the viewing quality of premium content.”

Friend MTS’ ASiD service is the most widely deployed watermarking for premium sports and entertainment content. It can stop streaming piracy rapidly by cutting it off at the source; this is done by terminating the access of the subscriber that’s redistributing the content.

Suitable for live channels, pay-per-view events and on-demand assets, Friend MTS’ watermarking services are ultra-robust and fully scalable. They are highly effective against illicit streaming devices, Kodi add-ons, mobile apps, websites and social media.

Friend MTS’ global monitoring service uses fingerprint-based content recognition to enable highly automated operation, and this can tackle even the largest live events which can generate thousands of pirate streams.

Visitors to NAB 2019 will be able to see how Friend MTS’ multi-layer watermarking can stop streaming piracy with traditional and OTT content delivery.
