StarTimes cuts Kenya pay-TV fees

StarTimes, the fast-growing DTH and digital terrestrial pay-TV broadcaster is trimming its subscription fees to its DTT service in Kenya by about 50 per cent.

Viewers will now also be able to view on a daily basis on its ‘Nyota’ bouquet, and costing just 25 Kenyan Shillings a day (about €0.22/$0.25).

As to more conventional monthly subs rates, fees drop from KSh 1499 to KSh 749 (€6.61) on its ‘Classic’ bouquet, and to KSh 259 for the monthly Nyota rate.

StarTimes is also adding 6 more services including National Geographic channel, Fox and Star Plus.

StarTimes director of marketing Japhet Akhulia said the changes are expected to lead to a stronger subscriber offer in terms of price and content. “We have made strategic improvements by adding six more channels key in extending value for money to our Classic bouquet subscribers,” he said.

As for Star’s DTH service, subscribers on its satellite television platform have the option of the ‘Super’ bundle retailing at KSh1,499; ‘Smart’ option at KSh899 or ‘Nova’ at KSh449 respectively.
