Cairns exiting Sky Sports News

Andy Cairns is to step down as Executive Editor of Sky Sports News in the summer, bringing to an over 30 years of  of service at Sky.

Cairns started his Sky career at Sky News in 1989 and was a central part of the team that launched Sky Sports News in 1998. Cairns has also overseen a range of technological advances, as well as a move to a new studio in 2014.

Before joining Sky, Cairns worked for BBC News. He has been a member of the National Council for the Training of Journalists accreditation board since 2010, and became a director and trustee of the organisation in 2016, as well as chair of the accreditation board.

“The way sport is covered by the media has changed beyond all recognition in the 20 years since Sky Sports News began and I feel a great privilege to have been part of that change,” Cairns said. “Now it’s time for the next generation to grab the baton and change to make it even better for of our viewers.”
