Telefónica and Vodafone picked for 5G pilots

The Spanish Administration has selected Telefónica and Vodafone to implement 5Gs pilot projects throughout Spain.
Vodafone will carry out a project in Andalusia, along with Huawei with an investment of €25.4 million over of 30 months. Telefónica will work with Ericsson and Nokia to implement its part of the pilot in Galicia, north of Spain, for €11.5 million and with a duration of 24 months. Both pilot projects will use the 3.4-3.8Ghz and 26Ghz frequency bands.
To subsidise the 5G tests, the Government will give a total of €11 million in state aid through FEDER funds.
Eleven companies submitted bids for the 5G tests before Telefónica and Vodafone were confirmed as the co-winners.
