Apple signs Favreau for dinosaur docuseries

Apple has agreed a deal with Hollywood producer and director Jon Favreau to create a dinosaur docuseries for its Apple TV streaming service. The series, entitled Prehistoric Planet, will be produced by BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit and will recreate the events that led to the extinction of dinosaurs.

Favreau is perhaps best known for directing the Iron Man movie and its first sequel – as well as appearing in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (including the recent Avengers: Endgame) as the Happy Hogan character. He also directed the live action versions of The Jungle Book, as well as the soon-to-launch The Lion King.

The Prehistoric Planet production team for will also feature Planet Earth II producer Mike Gunton and Avatar visual effects artist Andrew R. Jones.

Favreau is also set to direct the pilot for the the much-hyped Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian, for rival streaming service Disney+.
