Italy: New pay-TV platform in September

Italian broadcaster Europa Way (formerly Europa 7) is planning to launch a new pay-TV platform in September, using DVB-T2 technology.
Fly HD will initially distribute eight movie channels from leading Hollywood studios and a music channel that will broadcast major Italian and international events, broadcasting in HD/4K HDR with Dolby Digital sound.
The platform, which will use the Nagravision encryption system, will be hosted by Mediaset’s R2 technology platform.
According to the broadcaster, the movies and events will be available in PPV mode, “at an extremely competitive cost and without any subscription obligations”. In addition, a dongle will be offered to customers for TV channel reception on smartphones and tablets.
Europa Way is owned by Italian entrepreneur Francesco Di Stefano who has on several occasions in the past tried to launch an alternative offer to the existing broadcasters, both free-to-air and pay-TV, without much success.
Last November, Europa 7 announced it was seeking a partner for a new low-cost PPV service.
