Italian public broadcaster RAI is planning the first 5G transmission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, and the City of Turin.

The trials will be conducted by RAI’s Centre for Research, Technological Innovation and Experimentation in Turin. They will commence on June 24th, during a special event to mark the occasion of the Feast of Saint John, when HD 5G images in broadcast mode will be transmitted.

The show, filmed by a mobile unit located inside the square and by drones, will also be be supplemented by 4K footage of the Piedmont region and Turin.

The RAI Research Centre will be responsible for the experimental transmission in 5G technology broadcast by the RaiWay transmitter of Torino Eremo and the footage will be made available to the public in the square through two maxi screens.

At the Museo della Radio Rai, the new 5G broadcast technology will be illustrated to a group of teachers and students of the Turin Polytechnic who, through an innovative app in Wi-Fi multicast technology created by Global Invacom, will also be able to appreciate on their mobile phones this service received directly over the air through an experimental receiver developed with the University of Braunschweig.
