Virtual Instruments buys Metricly

Virtual Instruments, a specialist in AIOps for hybrid infrastructure management, has completed its acquisition of SaaS-based cloud cost, optimisation and monitoring service provider Metricly. The acquisition will enable Virtual Instruments to expand its cloud migration, monitoring and analytics portfolio to offer customers SaaS-based, hybrid infrastructure management across multi-cloud environments.
Formerly Netuitive – one of the pioneers in applying machine learning and AI to IT operations (AIOps) – Metricly’s platform provides tools to help customers plan, analyse, organise and optimise their cloud workloads, services and resources. Metricly specialises in full-stack monitoring and optimisation of application middleware, containers and microservices in public cloud environments.
“A majority of enterprises expect to run their workloads in a hybrid IT environment, with 57 per cent of IT decision makers responding to the 451 Research Voice of the Enterprise, Cloud, Hosting and Managed Services survey indicating that they are moving toward an integrated on-premises and off-premises environment,” said Nancy Gohring, senior analyst at 451 Research. “Enterprises relying on a hybrid environment have learned that a unified approach is key to monitoring applications that run across on- and off-premises infrastructure. They also recognise that cost optimisation is an important component of hybrid operations, where a clear understanding of cloud costs is an important factor in determining the best execution venue.”
With the acquisition of Metricly’s platform, Virtual Instruments expands its hybrid IT infrastructure management portfolioto encompass the full range of the cloud deployment models – including public, private, hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Metricly’s cloud-native monitoring, workload analysis, resizing and AWS cost optimisation solutions will integrate with Virtual Instruments’ VirtualWisdom, the industry’s most comprehensive hybrid infrastructure monitoring and AIOps platform. The acquisition will result in the addition of more than 50 new integrations for popular open source DevOps technologies to the Virtual Instruments portfolio, covering middleware including databases, messaging platforms, microservices, and containers, as well as cloud infrastructure services such as AWS Lambda, EC2, ECS, ASG, EMR, Microsoft Azure VMs, and Load Balancer, among others.
