Eurosport Player on Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show

September 5, 2019

Discovery and Amazon are collaborating to bring Eurosport Player, the sports brand and OTT service, to Amazon Fire TV, Fire tablets and Echo Show devices in Europe.

Amazon’s Fire TV service will become one of Eurosport Player’s preferred streaming media players in Europe. The alliance will provide Fire TV customers with access to Eurosport’s coverage of many of the world’s biggest sporting events in available countries, including: Grand Slam tennis championships; cycling’s Grand Tours; all FIS World Cup and World Championship winter sport competitions and premium motorsport series, such as Formula E, WTCR and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Eurosport Player customers with Fire TV devices will also be able to enjoy the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in 4K in all countries where Eurosport has the rights to the Games and where 4K is available. Fire TV customers will also have access to a free, daily Olympic highlights show produced by Eurosport for viewers in a number of key markets.

Additionally, Amazon and Eurosport are working together to offer Eurosport Player with the purchase of some Fire TV devices in certain territories. In addition, Amazon will be purchasing Eurosport Player annual subscription passes to offer to selected customers when they purchase Fire TV devices. In addition to the voice control Alexa brings to Fire TV and Echo Show, Amazon and Eurosport will work together to create unique Alexa utterances for sports fans, making Eurosport Player content even more accessible and entertaining for fans via Fire TV.

Paul Rehrig, General Manager, Eurosport Digital, said: “Sports fans will be delighted with our Eurosport Player app on Fire TV, which will set a new bar for sports streaming services in Europe. From 4K viewing, to unique highlights, to using Alexa to ask questions during the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Eurosport Player customers are guaranteed to have one of the best fan experiences in Europe. Amazon shares our focus on product innovation and providing the best possible experience for our customers. They have proven global leadership in personalised customer experiences and extensive, engaged audiences in each country. Together, we’re committed to our shared goal of upgrading the Eurosport Player app for Fire TV and supporting 4K UHD streaming, giving fans unforgettable sports content experiences.

“This is the first of many enhancements we are making to Eurosport’s digital services ahead of Tokyo 2020 as we continue to develop our award-winning direct-to-consumer products for fans who want a fuller and more immersive viewing experience,” Rehrig concluded.

Laurent Prud’homme, SVP Rights Acquisitions & Syndication at Eurosport, added: “For Tokyo 2020, Discovery is committed to offering fans the most innovative and in-depth digital Olympics ever across Europe, delivered at a scale that has never been seen before. We’ll engage more people on more screens than ever before.”

Eric Saarnio, Head of Amazon Devices EU, said: “We are always looking for new ways to bring great content to our customers and by working with Eurosport to bring the Eurosport Player to Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show devices we’re making it possible for customers to watch their favourite sports content in 4K Ultra HD quality. We are thrilled to be working with Eurosport.”
