Content and revenue protection specialist Friend MTS  has revealed an agreement with Akamai, the intelligent edge platform for securing and delivering digital experiences, to join the company’s Media Technology Partner Programme (MTPP). By combining forces, Friend MTS will integrate its ASiD watermarking technology with Akamai’s Stream Revocation service to enable near-instantaneous termination of streams to devices which have been identified as the source of restreaming piracy.

Akamai customers who are delivering their premium content over the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform can utilise Friend MTS’s ASiD technology, the most widely deployed and actively-used subscriber watermarking in the world, in order to stop content theft in minutes. Where Friend MTS ASiD has been deployed, it has produced dramatic results leading to a significant reduction in piracy within a matter of days.

“This important agreement with Akamai allows our operator and service provider customers both large and small the ability to rapidly terminate delivery of content to devices that have been identified as sources of restreaming piracy,” advised Simon Hanna, Regional Vice President, EMEA, Friend MTS. “This capability is essential to effectively protect the highest value content properties, especially premium live sports.”

“Akamai and Friend MTS are combining their strengths to offer a new service for video distributors in the fight against video piracy,” added Natalie Billingham, Vice President, Media, EMEA, Akamai. “By working together collaboratively, Akamai and FMTS will help video distributors monitor and identify pirates, and give them the ability to revoke access to their streams, quickly and efficiently. Together, we will be providing the industry with a new method of discovering, preventing and enforcing anti-piracy activity.”
