China is to start supplying 8K TV displays by the end of this year. Hisense has confirmed that it will launch 8K set in Europe next year, and TCL will do the same, reports Reuters.
Chinese set-maker Haier will start selling 8K receivers in China later this year. They demonstrated a 75” 8K receiver at the IFA trade show in Berlin a week ago.
The current market for 8K displays is extremely modest, and the Japan Electronics & Information Technology Association says that just 28,000 units were sold last year despite Japan starting 8K transmissions on Dec 1st 2018.
The Association says sales will rise to around 8.26 million units in 2023.
