Spain’s DTT aid kicks off this week

September 23, 2019

From David Del Valle in Madrid

From September 26th, Spaniards will be able to apply for a portion of the €145 million aid package to readjust their antennas to watch DTT, as the second digital migration prepares to take place in the country.

Around 850,000 buildings with communal antennas will be affected due to the DTT migration to release the 700 MHz band for 5G services – set to be completed by June 2020.

The amount of the subsidy will range from €104.3 to €677.95 per building depending on the existing DTT infrastructure. The migration will not affect to houses with an individual antenna -in their case only a change of frequencies will be needed.

The second DTT migration is gradually rolling out in Spain with the first switchover of the new frequencies in the Baleares Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera), 94 municipalities in the north of Cáceres, west of Spain, and 24 municipalities in Huelva, in the south.

Also this month other provinces will be added including Almería, Vizcaya, Guipúzcoa, Córdoba, Albacete, Álava, Huesca, Lugo, Málaga, Segovia, Soria, Teruel, Valladolid, Zaragoza, and Granada, among others.
