Messi10 by Cirque du Soleil on Rakuten TV

This autumn, Rakuten TV, the European VoD platform, will release a new documentary, MessiCirque, which explores the behind-the-scenes of the highly anticipated Messi10 by Cirque du Soleil, inspired by perhaps the world’s greatest football player Lionel Messi.
Set in Cirque du Soleil ´s International headquarters in Montreal and featuring Messi himself, the documentary will show images of the creation process and artistic transformation of this unique production blending the vocabulary of sports and circus arts supported by a soundtrack courtesy of Sony Music.
MessiCirque shows Messi`s role in the creative development of the show, which explores all the elements of his success. MessiCirque is directed by Argentinian filmmaker Agustina Macri, whose credits include Soledad, which won Best Feature Film at the Barcelona International Film Festival earlier this year, and documentaries Snowden and Putin Interviews, alongside Oscar Winner Oliver Stone.
Macri said: “Cirque du Soleil is synonym of audacity, and art, while Lionel Messi is the equivalent on the pitch. We aim to create a very special parallelism between two disciplines”.
The arrival of the new documentary marks the continued evolution of Rakuten TV, following their continental expansion earlier in the year, which saw the VoD platform presence triple as it expanded in 42 countries across Europe.
This documentary is part of the official sponsorship of Rakuten on the Messi10 by Cirque du Soleil show. Rakuten TV will have the distribution rights of the documentary across Europe, with a simultaneous release in all European countries on November 21st.
