Mark Alford, former Head of Digital Output at Sky News, has been appointed Director of Sky Sports News.

Rob Webster, MD of Sky Sports, commented: “We have been running a rigorous process to recruit the new Director of Sky Sports News. As reflects a role of this standing in our industry, we interviewed a number of exceptional internal and external candidates. I am pleased to announce that Mark Alford will be re-joining us as the new Director of Sky Sports News.

“Mark headed up our Digital Publishing Unit for a number of years, having joined Sky from the Daily Mail. Most recently Mark has been leading the Digital teams in Sky News, and brings strong digital expertise to the role as well as extensive experience in news and sports journalism. I would like to thank Steve Scott for stepping up to lead Sky Sports News over the last 4 months which he has done with complete professionalism and dedication. Mark will now lead an exciting period for a crucial part of our business, building on the foundations set by Andy Cairns and the team over two decades”

Further to this announcement and having reviewed the first few months of SPS joining Sky Sports, I am also taking the opportunity to make some changes to the reporting lines. To align the content teams across the whole of Sky Sports, Mark will report to Steve Smith, Executive Director Sky Sports Content,” Webster concluded.
