Netflix launches mobile-only service in Malaysia

October 24, 2019

Netflix has launched a new mobile plan for Malaysia. At RM17 (€3.65) per month, subscribers can watch all Netflix content in standard definition on one smartphone or tablet at a time.

The mobile plan gives users access to all of Netflix’s entire local and international catalogue, with no ads, no-hassle cancellation, and Parental Controls to make informed viewing choices for their families.

As of 2019, 88 per cent of Malaysians own smartphones, and online entertainment is consumed massively among them; According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) 2018 Internet Users Survey, 78 per cent of Malaysia’s internet users spent time streaming and downloading entertainment. Netflix members in Malaysia already watch twice as much content on their phones as the average member. Netflix said the new mobile plan is tailor-made to broaden access to this mobile-first nation.

“Our members in Malaysia love to watch shows on their smartphones and tablets. With the first-ever Mobile plan in Southeast Asia, all of Netflix’s shows and movies will be even more accessible for Malaysians to stream and download,” said Ajay Arora, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix.
