AT&T offers free HBO Max

October 28, 2019

John Stankey, the COO of AT&T, has announced that the US telco giant will be giving HBO Max for free to existing subscribers when the SVoD service launches in spring 2020.

The news comes on the heels of Apple offering its own Apple TV+ service free for a year to anyone who buys a new Apple device, and the Disney+ service being free to all Verizon subscribers in the US.

Apple TV+ is set to launch on November 1st, while Disney+ follows shortly after on November 12th.

AT&T hasn’t clarified if HBO Max will be free for a limited time, or for as long as each customer remains subscribed to the company’s other services. AT&T has reportedly set a target of 80 million HBO Max subscribers by 2025, with 50 million of those being US-based.

Futher availability and pricing for HBO Max is set to be revealed on October 29th.
