HBO has given the green light for a prequel series to the hit fantasy show Game of Thrones.
Entitled House of the Dragon, the new series will be set some 300 years before events in the original show, which ended its eight-season in unspectacular fashion earlier this year.
The announcement came hours after news surfaced that another planned prequel, written by Jane Goldman and due to star Naomi Watts, was reportedly cancelled.
“It’s my pleasure to announce today that we are ordering House of the Dragon straight to series for HBO,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, at an HBO Max unveiling event in Los Angeles. “It tells the story of House Targaryen and the early days of Westeros.”
