Disney has confirmed that it will launch its Disney+ SVoD service in the UK on March 31st 2020 – as well as in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and “a number of other regions”.

Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement during the company’s end of year and fourth quarter earnings call.

The news was then backed up by the official Disney UK Twitter account, which tweeted: “Stream the magic. Disney+ will be available in the UK on March 31. Sign up at disneyplus.com and be the first to hear more.”

The confirmation follows a rumour started on BBC Breakfast that the service would indeed be available to UK homes from March of next year.

Disney advises that not all the shows and films will be available in all areas immediately. This is due to rights deals for various content already in place with other platforms – such as the Disney movie channel on Sky –  which will eventually expire. No pricing details for the new regions were revealed.

The service will first launch in the US, Canada and The Netherlands on November 12th, followed by Australia and New Zealand on November 19th.
