Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset is planning to increase its offer of free-to-air thematic channels, with the launch of Cine 34, dedicated to Italian movies.

The new channel will début on January 20th 2020, to mark what would have been the 100th birthday of celebrated Italian film director Federico Fellini. The first day of broadcasting will be completely dedicated to his movies.

Beyond that, Cine 34 will dedicate each day of the week to specific movie genres (i.e. action movies on Wednesdays, comedies on Thursdays, etc).

Cine 34, which will use channel position 34, will be Mediaset’s second FTA movie channel after Iris which has reported satisfying ratings.

Meanwhile, Mediaset’s channel 20, which broadcasts a mix of TV series and movies, will from January become a sports channel. Events that will be broadcast introduce Formula E racing, the Super Bowl and the qualifiers for the European Football Championship.
