December 4, 2019
The first Kurdish TV channel, Rudaw, has launched on Freeview 271 via the Channelbox platform.
Rudaw is the biggest Kurdish news network delivering news from Iraqi Kurdistan and the Middle East. There are over 250,000 Kurds living in the UK, making it one of the largest diasporas in the country.
Channelbox is a multi-channel TV service that bundles a curated selection of free-to-air TV channels, delivered to Freeview via the public Internet. The current Channelbox line-up includes France24, Hellenic TV, Rudaw, Retro Movies and Law & Crime. More channels will be announced in January 2020.
“We are thrilled to deliver the news to the Kurdish diaspora living in the UK in their own language and will continue to expand the portfolio of TV channels to cater for every community who made the UK their home,” commented Tanya Kronfli, Head of Business Development at Channelbox.
“This is a new step by Rudaw Media Network to impart news and information in an easy manner to the Kurdish diaspora in Britain. On the occasion of this service of ours and the New Year nearing, we congratulate the Kurdish people of Britain,” added Hejar Berenji, CTO at Rudaw Media Network
